I Wish I'd Had the Foresight to be Photographed with a Magnifying Glass

The picture on the right was taken during the first throes of Nancy Drew fever - around the time I went into an open bedroom at my grandparents' apartment to see what "clues" were visible from the center of the room. I wasn't sure whose room it was, and didn't want to touch or open anything, just to see what I could observe from the center of the room. In came Mr. Jaffe, my grandparents' boarder, a terrifying old man with a booming voice and shaggy eyebrows. When he saw me standing there he opened the bureau's top drawer, removed something -- a gun! -- and pointed it at me. "Do you know what happens to nosy little girls?" he shouted.

Girl Sleuths

Hello!

If you're a fan of the girl sleuth mysteries written for children -- but enjoyed by people of various ages - please e-mail me. I'm taking an informal survey of the impact of girl sleuths on adult memory and choices. With enough resposes, I'll compile a book and you'll get a copy. When you respond, please supply a snail-mail address.

Who's your favorite? What stories, or fragments of stories, stand out in your memory?

Has any girl sleuth affected your choice of career? How?

If you could meet one in person, who would you most want it to be? Why?

If you could give one advice, which one would it be? What advice would you give?

Any and all contributions are gratefully welcomed.

Sincerely,

Tiffany Holmes
